I hope you are enjoying the rest of the holidays. I have been doing a lot of reading (science fiction, fantasy, some thrillers and an eclectic mix of business books). “Slow down” stood out. One reader called it a type of radical-wake-up-call-vacation-reading.

Slow down, how degrowth communism can save the world

The book is a mix of Buddhist economics, the exponential age (in particular, the inability of governments to keep up), doughnut economics (more commons), the end of jobs, abundance, system collapse, the makers movement, techno socialism and Naseem Taleb. Here is my blog about the book. I understood only half of it, but Saito´s point about how our current economic models might need some rethinking is interesting. Anyone who believes that exponential growth can go on forever in a finite world is either a madman or an economist. It is a hard read. “Green Swans” is easier (with the same message).
